Today, we celebrate the most popular movies in the Nordics across 2023 by revealing the top 10 titles that dominated the weekly Film Hitlist across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
The Film Hitlist is compiled from data gathered across all major regional digital retailers, including Apple TV, Blockbuster, Rakuten TV, SF Anytime and Viaplay Store. The Film Hitlist is the definitive, up-to-the-minute guide of what titles are trending in homes across the Nordics, making these titles the movies that defined the last 12 months for millions of film fans.
A mix of international and local titles across each top 10 highlights the vast breadth of content consumers across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland enjoy. Highlights include the unstoppable power of ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ which saw a fantastic performance across all regions, with Bob Buchi (President, Worldwide Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures) saying, “The film became a massive success across home entertainment platforms and the #1 best-selling Digital release of all time in the U.S. and in markets around the world. We are thrilled with its performance, and on behalf of the studio, I want to thank all our retail partners for their tremendous support and efforts that helped make Top Gun: Maverick a true phenomenon.”
Elsewhere, the latest instalment of the Denzel Washington action-thriller series ‘The Equalizer 3‘ stormed to the top, securing the most weeks at number one in Norway, thanks to a 5-week reign! Mark Young (EVP, Distributions & Networks, EMEA, Sony Pictures Television) commented, “Delivering great entertainment that speaks to audiences is our goal at Sony Pictures, and in a year where the entire industry has launched big titles, it’s fantastic to see this action-packed film top the charts on five occasions.”
Turning to local content, Danish comedy-drama ‘Fædre & Mødre’ achieved an impressive 7 weeks at the top spot in Denmark, while in Sweden, Ruben Östlund’s ‘Triangle of Sadness’ scored 6 weeks at number 1 and ‘Länge Leve Bonusfamiljen’ remained in the top 10 for a whopping 17 weeks!
